My own journey in mentoring began by mentoring young people who were on the edge of being excluded from school in 2008 in Buckinghamshire.

Being involved with the young people helped me to understand the value of listening, treating the young people with respect, staying out of judgement, guiding, learning together, helping them with their responses to challenges, considering what could be changed in their situation, setting goals and having fun.

Since returning home my role as a Family Support Foster Carer I have been able to transfer these skills to:

  • help support parents/carers in preventing their child/ren entering the care system.
  • ‘walking beside’ others when they are experiencing challenges with the skills I have developed over the years has been a learning experience for me and for what we can offer to others. The families often communicate to me that they feel they are back on the path, see another way of looking at a situation and our relationship has changed their relationship with their family.

I have mentored many others through the MAPS model.  The MAPS model offers agreed sessions for a more lengthy period of time.  If you feel you could benefit from having a one to one mentoring experience I offer a free consultation and you can decide if mentoring would be of benefit to you.

This can be done in person, telephone or via zoom.
